Walk into our home on any given evening and you might not think anything "important" was going on. You would probably see a couple of boys cooking dinner; maybe someone playing chess with one of our youth advocates; perhaps a small group arguing over whose turn it is to use the phone. It's just this kind of ordinary routine; however, that makes all the difference in the world for Geneva Foundation's kids. After living in foster care or residential treatment programs since they were very young, they are finally learning the mundane, but vital skills necessary to live healthy, safe and productive lives.

Within a very short period of time, they need to learn how to do everything from live within a budget, cook, do their own laundry and apply for college. Our Internal Family Systems (IFS) model and Self-Leadership Coaching provides an interactive, safe, hands-on training environment that allows youth to practice newly acquired skills in the same way a professional might complete an internship or practicum.

When the time comes for a ward of the State of Illinois to move on to college or an apartment of his own, Geneva's unique program recognizes and responds to the overwhelming challenges he will face. Geneva addresses these individual needs through creative program alternatives:

  • Educational / vocational counseling
  • Extensive community resources
  • Cooking, budgeting, household management
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Support groups
  • Expressive art therapy
  • Yoga
  • Meditation
  • Martial arts
  • Dance movement
